So Redemptor has now become Private Recruit Redemptor in the canadian forces. Did my enrollment ceremony today and at 11:19 was sworn in. Basic starts in two weeks, wish me luck!

Good luck in the Canadian army. I don't know how different it is from the American army but let me know if you see Wolverine.

I was shocked too when I found out Canada had an army but the news isn't surprising after being told three times. Though I'm still skeptical of whether or not it's existence is real or if it's just a myth.

Yes, Canada has an army. They just had an entire beach to themselves on D-Day, that's all. And in modern times, they enjoy getting bombed by fatigued USAF pilots who can't tell if they're friendlies or not in Afghanistan - that incident is two years old, and I'm still bitter about it.

Good luck.

Remember: Shooting friendly forces is considered a bad thing. You're not part of the US Army.

HEY enough with the US military bashing already! It's not our fault that all the other militaries get booze on their ships. Plus there are a hell of a lot more US planes dropping things from the skies, so the chances of it being us are greater

friendly fire is always a problem in war... ANY war. thres nothing that can be done about it unless we start using robots for combat. and then we'd just end up fighting the robots. FF happens, you deal with it.

Good luck in the Canadian Army! I've got a friend in the Canadian RAF, and if he's any sign of what you'll be dealing with, you're going to have a great time. Something I observed while being in the US Army is that when you choose your job, generally, a lot of people similar to you are also choosing that job, so the specialized training (after Basic) is loads of fun, and a lot like College, save the illicit substances...

Just remember while you're in Basic, no matter how crappy things get, it WILL get better. Each step takes you closer to a level of freedom that is rarely obtained by young adults these days. Guaranteed check, fairly simple/enjoyable job, strong sense of camaraderie, weekends almost guaranteed off, and usually home in a decent time for an early dinner.. or late night. At least, that's usually how it goes when you're at a stable post within your motherland. Overseas, whole different story. Let's hope they wind this whole thing up soon, shall we?

Hm... the army has always been a distant world to me.

But based on what some of you said, life in the army doesn't sound too harsh at all.
Think you'll be building robots in the near future, though, Redemptor?

More likely directing or providing artillery fire. The problem with using robots would be that its more akin to an expensive game of chess than war. As afar as I know the destiny of nations is not decided by board games.

Haven't you seen how they did nuclear disarming talks in "Spies like us"?

If you look at how the destiny of nations is decided right now, doing it with a board game might actually be a big improvement.
