Does anyone know if I could play films from my hard drive by plugging it into a Toshiba SD290 if I bought one?

And before anyone gets self righteous I ripped all the films from my DVD collection.

I'll pretty much try listening to anything once but my heart lies in Rock and Metal. As well as listening to music I play Bass Guitar for a Progressive Metal Band called Dark Matter and write my own music under the moniker Duality for which I play Guitar and Keyboard/Synth. (Links in sig)

I also play a fair few games on the 360 and PC, Gamertag is Paddy0 90.

Thats it, if you want to know anything else wing em a PM, worst case I'll get horribly offended and never talk to you again.

I jest :P

In theory it should work although I'd assume it depends on how good the built in media browser is. It does have DivX support though which I'm assuming you've ripped and converted into?
My Band - Dark Matter
My Music - Duality

I can be found on Facebook, ask me for details and I shall deem if you are worthy =P

You assume correctly.
I'd agree, it should work. Just don't want to waste time with it if it doesn't.
I think I might take my Hard drive along with me to a store that sells it and see if they'l let me try.

Although owning a disc, it is still illegal to copy it. Its written in that silly screen at the start of nearly every movie ever. And that is also because you have to break their copyright therefore you are breaking the law...

Semantics aside (and its a very murky topic)

Yes, it looks right to work and I would test it on a TV in their showroom

I thought by saying this I'd nipped any moralising in the bud.

I'm from the Scotland.
Scottish (and UK) law states that you can make a copy for your own personal use and back-up purposes.

Anyway, cheers for your advice apart from that. I'm off to check just now.

Wish me luck.

Bollocks.
They say it'll only take memory up to 4Gb.
Does that sound right to anyone?

Aren't most movies 8, and then you use a program to "shrink" them and they go down to 4? Hmmm I've only ever *heard* of this for burning movies to a blank DVD though. Not sure about HDs and such.

Most DVDs are about 4.7Gb. Some films will be released on slightly larger ones.
Cutting out all the extras will give you a file between 1 and 2Gb.

I usually reduce the quality (which works fine on my Archos 605) so it's usually about 500-750Mb.
