Wow I can't believe it's already been 2000 strips. I remember when they switched the Chad it was such radical change from the previous artist's work, I think that's when the strip really started to find it's form and under Lar has achieved an even higher level, he's given it a more humanistic feel which balances perfectly with Rayne's unrealistic behavior. Keep up the good work and we look forward to the next 2000!

I came across the comic fairly late in the game. I believe it was around Rayne and Fetus' first encounter at the bar/club. Obviously I went back and read the rest. I mean, who could just pass up so much comic gold! I do miss the nyquil jokes and the Tao of rayne though.

Way to go guys!

Does anyone else miss the art style done by Chad Porter. Cuz I do. Now lets see how many of you call for my head on a silver platter with a glass of champagne.

I think Lar is probably a technically better artist, but, for me at least, Chad's style was the defining style of LICD. IMO, Lar's fits better on LFG where he was onboard from day one and help set the style and tone.

(I'm not sure how much the artist affects Sohmer's writing, but I enjoyed the jokes and stories from Chad's era the best as well, which probably helps quite a bit.)

The very first Rayne was done by an artist named Marcus (don't recall his last name). He and Sohmer posted exactly one strip together before he bailed on the endeavour. Yes, it was kinda anime-ish, something Sohmer wasn't too keen on but these things are a compromise and collaboration. That was his style. I had to dig through the Internet Wayback machine to find it.

And yes, I drew all the characters in this strip. I probably could have had a decent career as a forger. wink.gif At least of comics.

Later!

I actually did the same thing a few months back. I'm surprised that more of us didn't. A couple of the links are broken, but you can see the very very original comic if you find the right one.

WOOHOO!! 2000 strips! That's a milestone!

And as for the early manga style, It's interesting to say in the least. However, it's not my preferred style of art. Love Lar's work the most, but the other guys did a great job as well.

!!!

How about one collaborative art piece between all of these guys to celebrate 2000 strips?

I was looking back through all the comics, and Lar's style has changed a lot since he first started doing the strip full time. Ranye looked like Sly Stalone at one point.

Anyone else notice in that lost LICD strip with Cereal Experiment Layne, one of John's hands looks ridiculously small, while the other looks ridonculously huge? Thank the gods Sohmer didn't keep that guy around as the artist. shok.gif

Those are pretty good recreations. I think your style is much better though. Not that I thought the others were bad it's just that when I started reading the comic you had already been drawing it for a while and that's what sold me. If I had started before you did I don't think I wouldn't have followed this comic as passionately. I LOVE your style. I mean hey I paid 20 bucks for you to draw me and I probably would have paid more.

On another note, where would one find that very first comic?

CONGRATS!!
For I am Mr.Giggles, if you have a problem with that please go to one of the public restrooms of one of the various bars near your location and drink from ze toilet, and before passing out make sure you at least attempt at brushing your teeth, for even though it is disgusting, you will get a hot nurse after wards, and when they ask why you are there,

say:

"Mr.Giggles sent me to the toilet of fortune and beauty, and for it was true i am now in heaven, for you are here"

congrats on 2000 comics! I've been following for a looooong time. Though you did forget an artist, but I guess it technically never was posted online so it doesn't count? Anyway, here's the link to it for anyone interested. (yes it was by me, and yes I know it's horrid. Hence why it was never posted)

I'm completely serious and I can back it up if you want. I've talked about it several times on podcast and interviews I've given.

I backed out before Sohmer went live cause my artwork was complete crap. He was way better off without me at the time.

Sorry if I seem doubtful it's just phrases like

In the end I told Sohmer that I wasn’t ready to take on a weekday comic either with my schedule or artistically. Sohmer told me he understood and that he had another artist he could work with, Trevor Adams I presume.

seem to be setting things up for Sohmer saying he has no idea who you are.

I really don't know how you'd convince me short of Sohmer posting with confirmation.
Sorry.

Nope, I'm with you, Scar. Until Sohmer confirms it, it didn't happen. Sorry jhorsley3.

no skin off my back, I was just posting it for everyone to see another take on it.

And honestly, if I was going to 'make this up' don't you think I would have done some better artwork?

I only said Sohmer probably wouldn't remember because it was over 6 years ago, I only talked with him for a month or two about it then didn't talk with him again. Hell, I forgot about LICD until I found it by chance sometime last year online, thought the name sounded familiar and went looking into my HDD folders and found the file I linked to previously.

Again, you don't have to believe me, I just wanted to show everyone another old crappy view of Rayne.

Perhaps, but surely you can see how that sounds?

I'm sorry I don't believe that. And here's why:

You've put it out there as fact and probably gained several hits for your website by linking it to Licd. Which, if your right, is absolutely fine. But if you are making this up then that would be a fairly cheap thing to do.
But it makes me think you just posted your first post as a way of getting a few more hits.

Apologies if I'm wrong.

I agree, it sounds off, but I'm not sure how it can be said otherwise.

If I was doing it just for hits and made it up, I would probably have come to the forums here and linked to it back in April when I originally posted it on my site.

I understand it's hard to believe, but it is a fact and I did not do it for hits to my site. I don't do my comics for hits, I do them because I want to. Granted, I like hits to my site, who wouldn't? I just saw the comic and thought it would be a good idea to show an even older view of Rayne. Or maybe a view between Marcus and Trevor. It was around November 2002 when I did this so where ever that places it.
