I gotta say the idea for this came after i read Starsongs sig smile.gif but I was wondering how many of us read or have read Terry Pratchets Discworld novels and what is your favourite character and/or book?

I would have to say the Witch series are my favourite because lets face it its so hard to choose just one. Also the Nac Mac Feegle are bloody funny.

While i was walking to work this morning i got to thinking about the series and one book i forgot about.

The last continent.

Being a auzzie it was great to read a book from my favourite series that took the mickey out of my homeland.

Pratchett is awesomesauce.

Who in their right mind hasn't read a Discworld book. Comedy, satire and fantasy. That over fills my requirements for entertaining reading.
Althought I don't have a favorite..not exactly, but I would say Death
and Death of Rats
and Vimes
and Carrot
and Granny Weatherwax
and Rincewind
and Cohen
and the Unseen University staff
and the Patrician

Ok just about everybody mellow.gif

I've read about 25 of them now and I think I like the Watch-based ones best.

Favorite characters would be
Vimes, Patrician, Lu Tze and Angua.

Small Gods is my favorite "Book" although I agree that the Guards/Watch series is hilarious as well (With particular distinction going to Men at Arms)

My favorite character is a toss-up between DEATH (You gotta do the all-caps people wink2.gif) and the Patrician.

I've only read like 5 of them ... Amongst which my favorite was Soul Music. I have to say that even though DEATH (tongue.gif) is pretty cool, the wizards are quite hilarious smile.gif

I guess the gist of it is that I really am fascinated and interested in pretty much everything, except for sports (yes, I know archery and swimming are sports, but i'm talking more generally about the really big ones like cricket, football, baseball etc.). I loathe football (soccer to americans). I'm not really big on cars either, and see them as little more than transportation from A to B, which is of course all they really are.

I have all the books and read them many times (sad perhaps, but they're all brilliant). My favourite books by a long way are the City Watch books.

Favourite characters in no particular order:

Samuel Vimes, Havelock Vetinari, Cheery Littlebottom, Angua, Dibbler, the Wizards (Rincewind, the Dean, Archchancellor Ridcully, the Bursar, Ponder Stibbons, the Librarian, Lecturer in Recent Runes and the Chair of Indefinite Studies). Also, for some strange reason, I like Lord Rust. He makes an amusingly incompetent opposition to Vimes.

I wish I had more Discworld book. Alas, I am poor, and the library has a poor selection. I'm tied on "Thief of Time" and "Guards, Guards" for favorite book, though I haven't read many. Stupid library. Stupid poor-ness. Stupid used book fairs/shops.

My favorite charecters... I like Carrot, Susan, DEATH (or course. He has such a wonderful dry sense of humor.) and I gotta say, I love the Librarian (Don't know why. Maybe I just like monkeys.).

EDIT: And Lu-Tze. How did I forget him in the origional list? He's (sort of, not really) the reason I love "Thief of Time"!

Don't feel bad, I'm in the same situation. But, I have read Small Gods, bought it at a library sale when I lived in Da Burgh all those years ago. Took me months and months to get around to reading it, but I did. And let me tell you, the mental image of a tortoise falling out of the sky and crushing some dude's skull in, then exploding up into a giant god... priceless.

Also, quote-age: "You can't trample infidels when you're a tortoise. I mean, all you could do is give them a meaningful look."
- Terry Pratchett , “Small Gods”

"The leading thief glared at the solid stone that had swallowed Mort, and then threw down his knife. 'Well, ----me,' he said. 'A ----ing wizard. I HATE ----ing wizards!' 'You shouldn't ---- them, then,' muttered one of his henchmen, effortlessly pronouncing a row of dashes."
- Terry Pratchett, "Mort: A Discworld Novel"

[Now, if you haven't read any of these books, go out and find some!]
"Kittehs - Death is their playmate!" - Me(In reference to Artemis and Miri playing with dead things in the house to entertain themselves, instead of all the expensive crap we buy for them.)

I have alien brain syndrome. I have no idea what it's doing at any given moment. -Me

Me - "Nobody recognized DaVinci's or Van Gogh's greatness until after they were dead."

Rose - Well, would you like for me to kill you and speed up the process?"

After visiting the Disc World, it's worth your time to read "Good Omens" that Terry co-wrote with Neil Gaimen.
Absolutely hilarious and my first Terry Pratchett novel. Since then I have devoured everything he has wrote, what a joy.

I have read nearly all of the Discworld books (including Where's My Cow) and Terry Pratchett is one of my favorite authors. At first I couldn't really get into the books (I started with The Color of Magic) but I eventually made it through and came to love the series.

My favorites are the Watch books especially Night Watch (I'm a sucker for time travel) and the stand alone novels. I also enjoy the novels featuring the Witches and DEATH.
