"Yesterday, during the Google I/O keynote, Google’s VP of Engineering, Vic Gundotra, laid out a grand vision for the direction Google sees the web heading towards with the move to the HTML 5 standard. While we’re not there yet, all the major browser players besides Microsoft are aligned and ready for the next phase, which will include such things as the ability to run 3D games and movies in the browser without additional plug-ins. But Google wants to take it one step further with a brand new method of communication for this new era. It’s called Google Wave."

This looks like Gmail... on massive steroids.

The next Wave ...brought to you by, who else? Google.

The most violent element in society is ignorance.

Looks interesting. Im actually a big google fan, So id like to see how this eventually works out.
I like google because they do this sort of thing alot, they take something that is already out there in what appears to be fine form, and they they improve it in ways that are so obvious once you see them, plus a lot of improvements on the inside that you dont see.
The search engine being an obvious one, making the front page so plain so it easily loads. The all the smart advertising they have managed to build in.
But what impressed me the most and made me a true google fan was when google maps came out. Mapquest was the go to place, but once google maps came out it was so substandard. Just little things like being able to drag the map around instead of clicking to move it over refreshing the whole page, or the more major things like being able to see streets overlaid on satellite photos.
Then they put on street view, and traffic, and being able to drag and drop your own route to avoid areas. All things that as soon as I see them Im thinking, "yeah, that should be there, why did no one else do that?"
Gmail coming out having a full gigabyte of space, Google finance being able to compare different investments side by side, and scroll around to see ANY timeframe you want.
Combine that with their vehemence on protecting user data from the government and other entities, and I think that we are looking at the greatest software company of our time.
These people are brilliant I say.

So I received an invite yesterday and got this thing up and running. Just have a few contacts at the moment, and its all very much about playing around and seeing what it is we can and can't do (yet). There certainly seems to be a lot of potential for a lot of things, but it is such a new concept, my mates and I are having trouble getting our heads around it.
Does anyone else have this? Your thoughts? Tips? I'm curious...
