Nah, I prefer another hobbit movie. The Silmarillion isn't really a story, it's a collection of information and as such it wouldn't make a good movie. (I didn't even think it made a good book.)

Lol.. Was my J.R.R. favorite. tongue.gif

I think if done right, it could make for a brilliant movie. And, hopefully without starting a debate, in it's basic everything is just a collection of information. tongue.gif

I disagree, some things are just to much content to make a movie out of. Making a good movie on the Bible from start to finish is a good parallel. I mean goodness, The silmarillion has such large stories in it that it even has its own spinoff book the children of Hurin. Thats only a small section of the sillmarillion but you could make a full movie off of just that. Beren and Tinuviel, is EASILY a whole movie unto itself and its only one chapter. The list goes on, the Rise and fall of gondolin, The sons of Feanor, The rise and fall of numanor (Sp?), The rings of power, etc. all of those could be made into good full length movies. to make a movie out of the whole thing would be a disaster.

Maybe in the same vein Hollywood will see fit the make LoTR origins stories, seeing as that appears to tbe the in thing tongue.gif

I already knew about the Hobbit movie for quite some time I'm very happy with the choice of director some of his other work is excellent I'm also happy to see that the same actors will return to play recurring roles (McKellen, Serkis)

and just in case you wanted to know Chaoti its Númenor smile.gif

As a huge LOTR fanboy, I am really psyched for this movie.

Peter Jackson did an AWESOME freakin' job with the LOTR trilogy, I easily trust this movie will be equally awesome. Plus, I love Ian McKellen.

I still think LOTR could've been done much better if he'd had the guts to choose between "follow the books" and "make it work best as a *movie*" instead of constantly switching between the two.

However, the Hobbit is a much simpler (and shorter) book so that should make things easier.

Don't get me wrong, I didn't think the LOTR movies were bad, I have the extended versions on DVD after all, but I do think they could've been a lot better.

I so absolutely agree with you on this. My fear is that The Hobbit is too simple to base solely on the book. Then again, The Hobbit doesn't necessarily have to last the whole 3 odd hours (theatrical) the Ring series movies were.

Tolkien certainly does love talking about traveling.
