for awhile now the laptop charge cord has been malfunctioning. weve replaced it multiple times, and it isnt really the cord. something to do with the hole it goes in. weve had to prop the cord at an angle, just for it to charge. that stopped working today. we are using a gateway laptop with a targis (maybe targus) replacement cord, if that helps.

edit MIL took it apart and thought it was fixed. it charged for a few minutes then died.

Do you mean the hole on the laptop? or the hole on the brick? How old is the battery? They have a life span themselves. You can get a new one for pretty cheap on ebay.

Nah, I've seen this happen many times in the past. It's the solder that attached the power input to a small board that attaches to the battery that broke off under repetitive stress. It could be the battery, but normally it still recharges, but just discharges very very quickly. You can get that fixed pretty easy, just go to any computer repair store and they should be able to solder it back without costing too much.

i mean the hole where the charger plugs in. i think we will take it to the geek squad, because i was told it was probably the battery, but J_A_X' s explanation feels right too. the place (jack?) makes clicking noises if the cord is moved.

thanks guys!
