I thought his HBO show was really funny, but you only got shot skits of each character, I actually thought Borat was a bit of a letdown. So I'll probably find this movie funny, but wait for it to hit DVD.

Looks quite funny, though I can't say I've ever been as big a fan of Bruno as I was of Ali G and Borat. Dunno if this could top the utter hilarity of Borat either, although I'm remaining cautiously optimistic.

One thing I am impressed with is Sacha Baron Cohen's ability to make himself look like a completely different person yet again.

He must have balls of steel.

How do you sit in the middle of a group of Americans weilding guns and tell them that they are 'so the Sex in the City girls' and not piss yourself? Why was he even with them in the first place?

I will see it.
I will laugh.
I will question his decision to taunt more armed Americans.

the best Bruno clip ever was the Spring Break one. He gets a bunch of college kid who are camping on the beach to do some really silly stuff, then finally goes "ok, now say Hello to Gay TV" and the guys suddenly all of "Wha? No."

His interviews with people in the fashion industry were really good too.

On June 6, 2008, a riot ensued at a stunt orchestrated by Cohen and the producers of the film as they staged a "Blue Collar Brawlin'" in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Patrons were lured to an event billed as cage fighting, held at a Convention Center, by print and Craigslist advertisements, promoting "hot girls", $1 beer and $5 admission. 1500 people attended the event, and were greeted by signs that informed them that they were being filmed. No cell phones, video, or cameras were allowed inside. Instead of hot girls and cage fighting, the acts taking place became homosexual in nature, and people threw chairs and beer at the performers. The performers were Bruno (Cohen) under the ironic gimmick, "Straight Dave" and an unknown actor portraying his opponent.

For what? They should be lucky charges weren't pressed on them for throwing chairs and bottles.

I look forward to watching homophobic bigots look like jackasses for my amusement. Is it manipulative? Absolutely. But fuck em, they should be sterilized.

For what?

For charging admission and then not delivering the entertainment promised. I'm sure there's laws against that kind of thing.

Hmm.... lawsuits for not delivering advertised entertainment versus lawsuits for physically abusing another human being, despite their apparent sexual choices.

Which one would be more profitable?

Hell, they probably only need to pay back the five dollar entry fee.

They had the beer, they had the women, and there was a cage with two well oiled and athletically fit men in it who wrestled one another.

Then they put their penises in their mouths.

Oh, that's different. The quoted bit said "Instead of hot girls and cage fighting" which to me sounded like there were neither hot girls nor a fight. If they did have everything promised but with a twist at the end, there's little to sue about.

Technically the two men was a bonus feature, and the crowd ought to have paid extra.

....Did I mention that I'm really not good at this 'public relations' stuff? tongue.gif

As an English person, I've had enough of Cohen to last a good, long while. I'm not saying that the film doesn't look funny and that I wouldn't enjoy it in a purely mindless kind of way, but I'll probably leave it until it comes out on DVD.
After a while, the "act like a member of a certain social group to show how racist/sexist/homophobic/stupid people can be" thing tends to look and sound the same, and it'd be nice if Cohen turned his brain in a slightly different direction to show us what other genius he is capable of.

Yeah, whilst I loved Borat, and I'm sure this will be very funny, it does seem a bit derivative. One thing I did always like was how the Ali G movie and the Borat movie were completely different, whilst this is more or less the same format as Borat.

I'm hoping it does focus more on the fashion industry as it did on the show, but you're right, with that news report and with the clip of him out in the woods with 4 hunters, it does look a little to much like borat.

This impression is only strengthened by the alternative US title:
