So for those of us who live in New Zealand, where the only movies we ever get to see before the rest of the world were the LOTR movies (always manage to be weeks, if not months behind others when things get viewed). Is Underworld - Rise of the Lycans worth seeing? Pros Cons etc?

I enjoyed it.
But in my whole life I've seen like three movies that I didn't like.
If you liked the first ones, more for the story then for the fact Kate Beckinsale is hawt in lycra, you should still enjoy it.
It retells what happened to start the Lycan/Vamp blood feud, and I always get a kick out of hearing the back story of characters.
The costumes and set design are awesome, although some of the 3D graphics are suss.
I'll ask a couple of mates what they thought about it and get back to you.
