Heard an interview with Ralph Macchio and he mentioned this. He has nothing to do with it, and actually said he spoke to Will Smith and told him goodluck, but said he didn't see the point to a straight remake. It will be interesting to see how Will Smith and others will change it up.

Originally, I heard it was going to be Stephen Chow as Mister Miyagi. Makes sense - Jackie doesn't look like a 25 year old, and hence fits the 'old master' thing
But.... The Karate Kid was a great movie, both of the Smiths have proven that they are talented actors, and Jackie Chan actually knows karate (unlike Pat Morita, who merely acted) so I hold a tiny flicker of hope that it might not be all bad.

You've gotta be kidding me. A "ghettoized" version of the Karate Kid? Come on, man. Let the asians have SOMETHING that hasnt been warped into a twisted and hideous form by being adapted for another culture.

To be fair, didn't the first Karate Kid already do that? The only prominent asian character essentially plays the "magic negro".

Jackie Chan actually knows karate
Really? Didn't know he was proficient in other martial arts than Kung Fu.
