Hi there.

I was wondering what movies you would say are absolutely cult, and have to be seen.

Any ideas?

If you want cult, then Plan 9 From Outer Space. That is the definition of cult.

I like all kinds of music and mostly I don't listen to the radio, I like to look for bands that are more underground *sorry if that sounds cliche*. That's not to say there isn't some good entertainment out there, just... well this is what I'm listening to lately:

City & Colour
Coheed and Cambria
Dustin Kensrue
Emarosa
Flight of the Conchords
Fleet Foxes
Imogen Heap
Isles and Glaciers
Lights
Missy Higgins
Owl City
Paramore
Say Anything
Sufjan Stevens
The Reason
Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker
You, Me, and Everyone We Know

There are a lot more, but not enough room so I'll stick with those for now. I'm pretty sure they all have myspace accounts if you want to take a look.

I can recommend you The American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American movies of all time. It covers up a selection of great movies from the last century. Because I am still pretty young I have only seen about a quarter of the movies from that list but all of 'em were qualified to be on that list.

Movies I personally find missing on that list are f.e. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Donnie Darko and The big Lebowski.

As a fan of Jim Jarmusch I can also recommend you the movies Night on Earth, Down by Law, Ghost Dog and Coffee and Cigarettes.

Strange Brew, definitely- it's amazingly funny.
Exte: Hair Extensions- it's a foreign horror movie (Japanese, if I remember correctly), and it's about hair. Hair that kills people. It's almost more believably a satire than a serious horror movie.

And uhhhh

Benny and Joon- one of Johnny Depp's first movies, original and genuine.
Charlie Bartlett, if you don't mind highschool movies...
Both of the Ace Ventura movies.

That's all I can think of for now. :>

I meant to put that, I originally had a few titles on the side to exclude them but took them off.

DRockG did mention it. Equilibrium is good movie. But the idea of the story has been more or less copied from the book fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. They just turned it into an action movie so more people would watch it. I kinda dislike that. So I'd rather recommend reading the book than watching Equilibrium.

Ok, I think that does it. You have to be the 10th person (at least) that has mentioned this movie in my general area of awareness in the last few months. I think I have to make it a Blockbuster Night now and see what all the hype is about.

Did no one mention the original Indiana Jones trilogy yet? Or did I just miss it?

There must be more movies I'd want to throw on this list, but I can't think of any right now. I have a lot of favorite movies I'd recommend, but none that I can think of that people would have to see. I'll have to think more about this...

Ray Bradbury's Fahrenheit 451, Aldous Huxleys's Brave New World, and George Orwell's 1984 are also major influences. (And they're certainly not 'new' reading material they were written in the 50s, 30s, and 40s respectively...still, new for you, and all good books.) good.gif

Also, I heard that movie sucked. Anyone else have an opinion on it?

Equalibrium? It's a good movie, not as earth shattering as some people make it out to be, but worth seeing. The whole gun thing was a bit to over the top.
