Most Disapointing Movies

For me:
1. Godzilla for so many obvious reasons. We could have had CGI'd animated Godzilla goodness and instead we ended up with some horrible mess of a film. There was nothing about this film that doesn't make me think they would have been better off just burning the negatives and pretending it never happened.
2. Goodwill Hunting. I heard so many good things about this movie that by the time I saw it, I couldn't believe what people had been saying about it. "You had me at hello"? Can you be any cornier? "How about them apples"? How does the entire bar not break laughing at him for saying that?

I can't really think of any others right now, just some that were over-hyped but still pretty good.
" [02:33] <Maelgwyn> Awareness comes and goes. Insanity is forever "
" dreamchaser: *tries Jim* hmmmm... needs more onions... =P
" Jim: ima popsickle!
dreamchaser: *sucks on Jim* ;) "
" 'No man is an island, entire of iteself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. Any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind.' -John Donne, Meditation XVII "
" Mismin: *cuddles teh yeti* "
" DIV-The real meaning behind men's names...Jim - sweet, has fantasies of love and affection but wanks too much. "

Other major letdowns:
The Phantom (I usually like Billy Zane, but that thing was just wrong.)
Alien vs. Predator (No explanation necessary.)
Hulk (The Eric Bana/Jennifer Connelly one.)

Good point.. that was also a major let down. Although knowing who was directing it, and that it was PG-13, I didn't have hopes that high.

Wasn't "you had me at hello" from Jerry Maguire? I know it's definitely in that one, and best known from being in that, but it's been a while since I saw Good Will Hunting so I can't say for sure if it's in there or not.

The Lost Boys The Tribe (OMFG what a horrible movie)
Saw (I figured it out in first five minutes)
Hostel (my anatomy knowledge had me laughing at it)

Ultra Violet
If I need to explain either of these, count yourself lucky.

You are correct sir. I was trying to think of one of Minnie Driver's cheezy lines.

Boondock Saints - I saw this because of word of mouth, without which I would have been completely oblivious to this movie. I never saw a preview or so much as a poster before sitting down to watch the movie. There is a good reason this movie was only shown on five theaters for one week. Crappity crap crap crap.
Crash - Apparently Paul Haggis hates subtlety. What he loves though is telling the audience how to feel and crafting characters through templates. If you're going to use the interweaving of seemingly unrelated storylines, do something new with it.
Across the Universe - It's a musical - using the Beatles - how do you fuck that up?!?!? There were some pretty fun music videos in there, but not a single interesting character or narrative worth following.

I felt this was disappointing too. It was good or ok, not great. And to win an award totally overrates it. I still think it won just because there was nothing else that year released that was award winning either.

Capote, Munich, Brokeback Mountain and Goodnight and Good Luck all should have won over Crash.
I find it really odd for a film to be considered the Best Picture of the year, and not have any of the performers or the director also win an award.

It was dispointing enough that I am being very cautious about the new Star Trek movie.
Star Wars Phantom Menace
Nuff said
I am pretty easy going when it comes to movies. I just want to be entertained
Edit: Add Wanted. I was expecting a loose interpretation of the comic..but not that loose. That said, if they would have called the movie something else, I would have been entertained.

Agree with that..
And let me add: The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy.
But nowadays I try to never expect much of movies.
Just under a meter long.
Ghis and n9zee talking about me again......

Star Wars Episodes I-III --the very definition of 'disappointment'
The Golden Compass--Falls way short of the book.
Now, here's hoping that I don't end up adding Watchmen to this list over the weekend....

I was also severely disappointed in Hostel. People kept saying "Oh man, this movie is so hardcore, you gotta see it, it'll scare you!" I watched it and laughed the entire time. The scene near the end with the girl and the blow torch and her eyeball? That was just ridiculous. When the main guy grabs her face and tries to steady her, I called out "Hey! HEY! LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME, I'M RIGHT HERE!" That got some laughs.
Let's see... what else? I was incredibly disappointed with Starship Troopers 2. I really enjoyed the first one. It was far from a cinematic masterpiece, but it was incredibly fun in a campy sort of way. I expected number 2 to have that familiar feel but it ended up just plain sucking.
And then of course there were the second two Matrix films.... *sigh*
