Slumdog was a good movie. ESPECIALLY since I heard nothing about it until the day before I saw it. I have yet to see Benjamin Button, but the one person i talked to who saw it said it was a really good film.

I actually sat and watched the entire Oscars last night, I was actually laughing my ass off for most of Hugh Jackman's performances during the show. I think he did a really good job as host, and I think even alot of the actors got a kick out of what he was doing.

I liked him. I think he seemed very classy, and anything funny was a surprise because you weren't expecting it. Where as when a comedian hosts you tend to get mini routines and it seems forced. I really disliked the presentations of the best actor and actress awards. Having 5 people up there to speak about each person just seemed to draw things out and kind of lame. Although I did love when Sophia Loren says "What can I say about this actress except, It's Merrill..."

I think your probably right, but he did generally set the tone with his opening song. I also loved the whole 'musical' throwback thing, like who was expecting Beyonce to come out on stage? or the skit with Seth Rogen I thought was down right hilarious.

I liked it for the best Actor, I think the list of stars up there was a little more impressive and adding Sean Penn to the list up there with those veterans was something cool to see.

Sophia Loren scared me,

As usual I didn't see most of the movies who won anything. Only the Dark Knight and Wall-E. (Animation being the only category where I saw all nominees.) I guess I am not the person they make oscar winners for.

As for being surprised, since I hadn't seen most movies I had to go with what other people told me and the big surprise of the evening was apparently best actor.

really? He's a really good actor. I don't see his winning as such an upset.

Sean Penn has had one role his entire life, Jeff Spicoli. All other roles have been crappy variations of this one character in one way or another.

But then again, I also tend to have issues with people who bash the military and then the next movie they make is one in which they are in the military, hypocricy.

Could you name these subsequent roles? Or even one. Just name one single post-Ridgemont role that Penn had which was in any way a repetition of Spicoli.

On a far less delusional note, I wasn't that surprised that Penn won, as has been mentioned he is a phenomenal actor. Though to what Malone said, he could have just as easily been up there with the other past winners presenting the award to Mickey Rourke (my personal pick) as he had previously won the Best Actor for his role in Mystic River.

Slumdog was kind of an easy sure thing. It was a very, very, very well made movie, and on the technical merits I absolutely agree that it deserves the praise it is getting. I wasn't particularly wowed by the script or the story, for me it was a little too routine. I think though that is what has really helped it attain such mainstream acclaim was how accessible it was to a large audience. It's a very enjoyable movie, and I wouldn't be surprised if coupled with the current economy that feel good aspect played a major role. Personally though, I thought it was good, but not the year's best.

umm I just wanted to say that Wall-E was the reason I watched it.
Fantastic movie.

Okay, I will admit, I am just spouting off a load of BS so big it could fertalize Texas. I just really hate Mr. Penn. I do not know why, just something about the guy has never really sat well with me.

I have found penn to always leave me very cold to his characters.
Agreed with Hailsky, Wall-E was the movie in this list I enjoyed the most.

Won't you have some fun with me?

Not sure if anyone caught The Daily Show last night, but they had a good line, "Great, now even our oscar's are being outsourced to India."
