Horror films around Valentine's day has always been an off and on thing. This year we've gotten a couple good remakes both keying off of the holiday. I think it's awesome. Gives a nice balance to all the over the top pinkness and cuteness of the holiday. Some people find it tasteless and in poor timing. What's your opinion? And what's your favorite Valentine's day movie?

Too bad the one that actually made it here was apparently not very good. But then, what part 12 in a movie series is?

I'll start with the timing aspect. If it is met with successful box office returns then it's anything but poor timing. That's inarguable.
As for taste, eh. Personally, I haven't found horror films to be all that appealing since I was 16. Part of it is the torture porn trend, but a bigger part is the fact that they don't scare me, which as I understand it is the entire purpose of the genre. Sure they can still get me to jump a little, but to be honest, any unexpected loud noise can do that. What I want out of a horror film isn't a momentary cheap thrill that is forgotten before I leave my seat. I want something that will genuinely haunt me, something that will keep me up at night and really make me think.
Barrel bottom caricatures wearing novelty masks do nothing for me intellectually, unless you count an involuntary rolling of the eyes to be intellectual activity. Give me a premise that I could easily see myself in, a threat or danger that is conceivably something I personally could be encountering. Until then I'll probably just continue to look down my nose at the genre's current offerings.

That's an issue with the horror genre in general. And I agree, way to often they get lazy. They can have a great concept and just let it go to crap because they get lazy, or a multitude of other reasons.
My point here is it's tie-in with Valentine's day. A typical romantic frenzy interrupted with such gruesomeness.

The idea behind that is you take your girl and when she gets scared she'll practically jump on your lap, or something. Does it work? I have my doubts.

It did in middle/high school. Once your balls drop though you should be able to make the moves without cinematic assistance.
