While searching the Internet Movie Database, I discovered something that should have brought immediate tears to my eyes. It should have been the most beautiful thing in the history of ever. Alas, my friends, it was not.

Proof Hollywood has no idea about anything.

Take a look at who is playing Duke. And Cobra Commander. For those of you too smart to know this, Duke is being played by The lead from Step-up, Channing Tatum. Cobra Commander is being played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. A.K.A. the kid who saw angels in the movie Angel in the Outfield.

Welcome to the Apocalypse.

Looks like this is going to be animated, so who cares what the people look like.

But really.. this is GI Joe.. it was a cartoon based on a toy aimed at 6 yr old boys so they would purchase said toys. How good do you really expect this movie to be?

Also, this belongs in the movie forum.

It's live action

Levit is actually a fucking awesome actor.

It's G.I. Joe. A retarded monkey masturbating for 2 hours would be about on par with the source. This isn't Vonnegut we're talking about, it's fucking GI Joe. It was a a series of action figure commercials with a slight semblance of a story. Bring up your childhood and I'll try and get an inmate to skullfuck you. Seriously, if GI Joe is some kind of watermark to your childhood, your life sucks.

See, all in jest.

Well worth repeating. Was a shitty cartoon and a comic book that mostly sucked but had some good moments. This movie is going to suck ass. I imagine we will hear about "freedom" allot.

hmm the first movie listed in cobra commanders resume is 'The Frog King' coincidence?

First publicity shots of new GI Joe movie. Paramount is quickly trying to pull these off the web...BRUTAL. My favorite is the Versace Storm Shadow...and the constipated Dennis Quaid.

The GI Joe Teaser trailer is now online. See it here GI JOE TRAILER.
I have to say, part of me wants to see this because of things going boom and whatnot, but part of me can't help but say...WTF?! That other part of me has problems, some minor and some larger.
When I first saw the image of SnakeEyes about a year or so ago, I thought, this is what he is supposed to look like. This is spot on. But then they revealed the rest of the Joes and they all had that outfit.
Part of the charm of the series was that it was a mesh of all the different units from America's (and sometimes other countries') military, all with their own unique costumes and personalities. Now they all run around in molded body armor and black spandex.
Destro (no, the guy in the suit at the beginning of the trailer is not Cobra Commander)...doesn't have his shiney helmet. According to Joe lore, his helmet was actually part of his Scottish heritage (since when do Scot's go around in shiney metal helmets, I don't know, but whatever). My guess is that by the end of the film, there will be some type of incident that will scar his face and he'll have to wear the trademark helmet/mask.
The action, while stylized and kind of cool looking, is completely ridiculous and over the top, so we'll see how it actually plays out on the big screen. The scene in the trailer that really bugs me is where it appears there are several Joes flipping through the streets dodging incoming fire. I know they're supposed to be highly trained superior fighting machines, but they (aside from one) are not ninjas.
The plot looks...well, don't know much about the plot, other than green bacteria like things eating away at the Eiffel Tower. That looks straight out of a bad 80s cartoon. This looks like the film might get the same shaft plot-wise that Transformers did, though in my opinion, the plots of the Joe cartoon were always worse than TF.
With all that said, I cannot wait for the final product and I hope it overcomes my beefs and presents and enjoyable movie with great action and hopefully a strong plot and acting than Transformers.

I don't get it: ridiculous characters, cliche tough guy dialogue (We don't answer to anyone.), outlandish action, and a nonsensical plot... sounds like G.I. Joe to me.

I have a feeling that they are going to deliver exactly what a live action adaptation of the franchise would be. Let's not forget that this was a 1980's children's cartoon based on a toy line. This is as sacred a cow as a Trix Rabbit biopic.

Now, if they are smart, they will use those iconic PSA's for promotional commercials.

If a movie based off of a cartoon series based off of a toy line has the potential to "ruin your childhood", I weep for what life must have been like when you were growing up.

That having been said, I wasn't really a fan of G.I. Joe when I was growing up, so I'm not really expecting anything out of this film.

But it's kind of like, they're not ridiculous and cliche in the right way, if that makes sense. Like I said, the outlandish action is what I'm looking forward to most. Nonsensical plot, I kind of expect, but at the same time, a lot of these 80s cartoon franchises have transcended their source material (the TF comics from Dreamwave come to mind) in such a way that we should expect more than a generic plot featuring characters with the same names as the ones from the tv show.
Also, look at the Ninja Turtle films (aside from the 3rd one). These were goofy, yes, but still took themselves seriously enough to deliver an enjoyable plot.

I think part of the problem is, is that we don't expect much from these kinds of films, so that's what we're given.

It wasn't a bad childhood at all. But still, it's one of those shows where I'd wake up early on a Saturday morning just to watch (though, yes, looking back at them, most of those shows were pretty terrible. TF has probably held up the best), so it kind of hurts the little boy in me to see these shows (and comics and video games) treated so terribly by movie makers when they do come to the big screen. Of course, that goes for book adaptions as well.

Then I would ask you to not be so melodramatic.

TMNT is NOTHING like it's original comic origins, sometimes things transcend sometimes they regress. It's all in the eye of the beholder.

If your child hood is going to be ruined because of it, that is sad.

I can understand disappointment that someone won't make an accurate and faithful adaptation of it (I was disappointed in TF) however it didn't affect how I remember my childhood and how those toys & the cartoon were a small part of my happiness then.

Ok, I don't literally mean that it's going to ruin my childhood if it's bad, but yes, I will be disappointed (and I share your disappointment in TF).

I know it is foolish to dream of, but if they used the Porkchop Sandwiches as a promo? I could finally use that as a joke and more than two people will get it.

Ah I laughed when I saw the preview during the Super Bowl, but I will go see it. Regardless of whether its good or not. If its good me and my friends will disturb the theater at the end of the movie with a rousing GO JOE! I just hope there's killing in it and no fucking laser beams yeesh.

The Baroness and Snake Eye's are the only one's that look good. God help me, Dennis Quad's nipples make me very uncomfortable.

That scene with the flipping in the street looks just fucking retarded.

You guys are lookign at this the wrong way.

I look at it as an AU telling of GI Joe universe.

I do that with ALL live actiosn I watch.

It makes it a hell of a lot better watching them.

And I think it will be an excellent special effects movie.

I am worried about the plot but I think the acting will be damn good.
