I know that Star Wars isn't supposed to resemble anything down here on Earth, but there are some things that sort of look like they came from here. If you know one, post it here and we'll discuss whether or not was it intentional of coincidental. I think we should include the official Star wars lore, including the six movies, the two cartoons and Video Games with story by George Lucas.
Is it just me who noticed how the circumstances of the Jesus' and Anakin's births are somewhat similar? Accord to Skywalker's mom there was no father, she got impregnated by the Force, which itself sounds a lot like God if you look at it from a certain angle, much like virgin Mary who got knocked up by His divinity (*Ick* I swear, alcohol had nothing to do with it!"). Both of them were also the Chosen Ones ("Christos" means "anointed one") to bring really great things and wielded super-duper powers beyond ordinary people. Does anyone else think that the two are similar and if so, was the similarity intentional?

I saw an interview with Mr. Lucas a few years back and he himself, pointed out a LOT of similarities between the Star Wars universe and Earths history. The most obvious one, to me at least, was the corrolation between the Stormtroopers and the Nazi army. This vast, seemingly unstoppable army where precision and perfection was demanded (of course, that was easier to attain with Clone Troopers...)... But yeah, Mr. Lucas pointed out a TON of historical facts, and figures, from which he based his Star Wars ideas off of. I don't know where that link is, but I'll try to find it.

There was a documentary (History Channel, I believe) about how Star Wars draws on historical events, as well as mythology and literature. For example, Jabba the Hut can be considered a modern dragon (hordes treasure, captures princesses), The Republic is like the Roman Empire, the very concept of Knights comes from our own history (as well as the idea of a code of honor), the Stormtroopers (as FutbolDude mentioned), plus various character archetypes.
It was a very cool show.

Near as I can tell from quick search of the History Channel website, it's Star Wars: The Legacy Revealed
