Alright...just saw the trailer for Terminator Salvation...and it looks good. But a few things are messing with me. What is the proper continuality?
Do we follow the movies (Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, and then Terminator Salvation), or do we follow two movies (Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and then the series (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)?
The only issues I have are these.
Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day had Judgment Day established as 1994. Although the actions of Dyson and the Conners in Terminator 2 pushed back Judgment Day.
Terminator 3 had Judgment Day established (and happening in the film) as 2004.
Terminator Salvation's trailer mentions the year 2018, without any direct actual mention of Judgment Day.
If you go just on the movies, the continuality is fine. However, when you take into account the TV series...it gets all screwed up. In the first episode of the first season (well...technically, it was the pilot), Cameron jumps the Conners to 2007 - which would have been a jump right into the "future" we're familiar with in the series if Terminator 3 was taken into account. However, with the time jump...Terminator 3 would have never happened.
So basically...does anyone have any idea what the "official" continuality is or will be?

Is this still legit since Obama is President now? Is dissenting
from him patriotism, like dissenting from Bush was?

It's its own. They've said that this will be a one shot Terminator movie that will stand in it's own timeline. a sort of "What If" story.

That's cool. I can live with that. Sort of like Highlander 2.
But that still doesn't explain the fact that Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles contradict themselves. That's the main continuality issue I have at the moment.

Meh, T1+2 had huge time travel inconsistencies too. They were still quite enjoyable.

Like the whole "let's destroy the remains of the T-800 from 1984...and then leave my own arm behind crushed in the plant machinery"?

Could be mindless fun action, but that's just the thing, it's going to be pretty mindless. Bunch of scruffy looking people fighting toasters, not a very compelling conflict. Sure, humanity's got its back to the ropes and things look bleak, but really, what's at all interesting about that, and do they really have anything new to comment on that situation?

Actually they have. They said the tv series will follow part 2, and go off on a different path.

You mean hollywood isn't doing anything new or original? How unusual of them.
