For those who can't open links 'cause of firewall restrictions or anything...it's a Star Trek movie, with Chris Pine (Smoking Aces) as Kirk, and Zachary Quinto (Heroes' Sylar) as Spock. 'Cause the information given in the first post is....well, there is none. wink.gif

I'm a big Star Trek fan but I dunno about this one. A prequel...? When the ST original crew was at the Academy? Meh. I'll check the trailer out tonight.

(Also, the title of this thread says Star Wars)

The only ST series I haven't watched is the original, so a movie based on them isn't so exciting.

of course, I'll still see it the day it comes out.

Star Trek ???? - The Undiscovered Country ( the one with the Klingon ship that can fire while cloaked and Iman) was one of the better sci-fi actions movies ever put out. I enjoyed that last two with Captain Picard but few others did. The one with both Picard and Kirk SUUUUUUCKED so badly that I wanted the 2 hours of my life back.

"Hai, guyz! Let's make Data say a swear word! We can sell millions of swearing data-dolls"

I don't know. I will see this one eventually, I just don't know if it is worth paying for a ticket and $95 small popcorn to see another STar Trek in the theatres. I have never been a fan of the original crew so it requires a GOOD movie to make me enjoy one of their stories.

I am stoked about this movie. drool.gif

Zachary Quinto (Sylar from TV's Heroes) as Spock? Cool. Karl Urban (Eomer from LOTR) as McCoy? Also cool. Simon Pegg as Scotty? Oh HELL yeah!

The trailer looks like the movie might be fun. But they better have some damn good explanations for fucking with continuity or else I'll be mildly displeased.

I don't get it, you mean why they would release a prequel instead of a movie that should come after Voyager and Nemesis in the timeline?

Because it worked so well when they did it with Enterprise!

oh, wait... THAT SUCKED!

Not only did Enterprise not work out so well, but this movie has events that never happened in the TOS series. Pike was only about ten years older than Kirk, not 20 (though how much Pike will be in this film is yet to be seen). The TOS crew had never met before Kirk took command, as McCoy was also older than Kirk, only went through basic, and then Star Fleet Medical. Spock had, on numerous occasions, said that he had never met Kirk before he took command. But that's just a fanboy rant. As I said before, they better have an actual good story for this film, otherwise I might rage.

SPOILER:
It also isn't a good sign when the film's plot can be summed up as Time Travelling Romulan Pirate.

I don't know about that. Romulan chicks work up my willy way more than Klingon chicks.

I hope the movie is as fast paced as that trailer, The original series was too lame action wise.... If it is as exciting as the trailer
this could be a rebirth of trek.... Just like the rebirth of Battlestar Galactica...

I'm digging that it's a Star Trek movie for people who are not fans of the series. Yes, it probably deviates somewhat from established continuity, but so what? It's likely to maintain the aspects of the series that work, and ditch the dead weight that has caused it to fail to build an audience. It's not different than what we have seen with 007 and Batman, starting anew to create something for new generations of fans, as well as provide something for at least the reasonable members of the established fanbase.

Let's be honest, Trekkies are some of the weirdest, most fickle social rejects out there. A studio can either make a movie solely catering to them, and be lucky if they break even, or they can make a good movie and build a new fanbase to go back and milk for more money with future installments.
