Anyone else trying this out? It doesn't appear to have java support yet, but it's fast as hell. Design is sleek but uninspired.

Edit: I can post with it, so it can't be all bad...

I took a look at it when I saw it on Lifehacker...but people were saying it took more memory than Firefox. And while I dearly love Firefox...it takes far too much RAM as is, even though FF3 seems to have improved it. If Chrome is any worse than that...way too resource-heavy for me.

I don't really know how to properly test that, but with all three browsers all open to this same page google Chrome takes up the least memory, FF is 39m, IE 37m, GC 36m.

I don't have any plugins for any of them.

Edit: Is memory for your browser really an issue? I don't think I've ever taken notice before.

It is when you're streaming videos on sites like Gametrailers, or just not closing it down fairly frequently. Firefox'll jump to 100+, sometimes 200+ MB, and with each tab being treated as a separate browser by Chrome, it seems to be using more memory per tab. Only difference that I could tell was that it didn't retain memory like FF does, which is the key -- streaming, say, two videos at a time, will still end up getting to a huge amount. Think the largest I ever saw was around 500. Ridiculous.

Also: Chrome is ugly.

You stream two videos at once? You must be better at multitasking than I am.

I welcome the tabs running as seperate threads, even if it uses additional memory. One page crashing not closing all my tabs will be nice, considering how often FF crashes.

I agree, it's not very pretty.

Just 'cause I'm streaming two videos at once doesn't mean I'm watching two videos at once. Just not downloading to my desktop.

You do have a point, though. With the separate threads, yeah, I'm a little irked by it taking more memory, but you do have a point that with the amount FF crashes, it would be nice to have a browser that doesn't lose everything so frequently.

One thing I've found a little strange by playing around with it is that, while Firefox and pretty much every other browser keeps the search bar and location bar separate, Chrome uses the same one. Kind of jarring.

Also: it's not just "not very pretty." It's downright fugly

I don't think something with such a small footprint can quality as that ugly, I mean it's basically a frameless FF without any buttons. It's not pretty, or as innovative a design as they'd like to think, but I can't call it hideous.

A lot of sites are not approving of the GC because of its limited rights and some of the clauses in its implementation.

However, I run firefox on my desktop (dual core thing, 1gb ram) and it never ever crashes. Then again, I am probably not doing with it what you all are...

I don't think I'll bother with Chrome, I love FF. Also, this bothers me greatly: http://www.theregist...ome_eula_sucks/

o.O Now that's just about the most scary thing I've ever read in anyone's EULA. That's the kind of stuff that Microsoft only wishes they had the balls to write in.

My understanding is that it's quite a bit more stable on windows, and 3 is far better than 2 was in this regard for linux and the "recover session" option almost eliminated the hassle. Still, it crashes more than any other piece of software I use regularly by a wide margin.

The EULA on the download I've got does not contain that paragraph, only the very first sentence.

They changed the EULA, so it no longer has the questionable bits.

I've been using Chrome since it was released and I haven't had too many problems. Just a site that wasn't compatible here and there, but nothing major. I still think Firefox performs better but I'm still using Chrome and providing feedback so they can make it better. I really hope it comes out on top when they release the final version.

Been using chrome since the release day. I've ran into a few problems with it but it's not bad. Mostly pages that aren't compatible or minor little tweaks that need to be done to it.

For now I'm going to continue using FF, mainly because I am used to it and they've spent so much time improving it. I would use Chrome over IE and Safari though.

I haven't had a chance to try debugging using Chrome yet so I am somewhat curious to see what that is like. I'll definitely try the final release version.

No. Just no.

It's better than IE. Those are the good part. No 's'.
