I hated everything they stood for, their marketing, their products, their lack of compatibility with the computers that the other 99% of the world would use…
I hated Apple, and I took every opportunity I could to point my finger at them and state boldly: “You suck”.
But then came the iPod.
Whatever I may have felt towards that fruit company (hatred), you couldn’t deny the genius of that device. It was well made, well designed and brilliantly executed.
So fine, I bought an iPod (I have since bought 3).
I made a distinction then, between Apple: The iPod company and Apple: The Computer Manufacturers.
But then came the MacBook Air.
It weighed 2 pounds, was ridiculously thin and had a good 5 hours of battery life. I needed a portable laptop for travel, and there simply isn’t one better, so I bought one. I swallowed my pride, and I adore that damn computer.
And where am I now?
Yesterday I received my iPhone 3g, and my heart sings with joy.
You win, Apple. You are victorious, Mr Jobs. You have defeated me. You have turned hatred into love.
I surrender.
- Because I can.

*insert apple a day comment*
I do however love my iPod, which was a birthday present from my girlfriend. My only reason for not getting an iPhone is wanting to be out of touch when I go out of the house. Now if they would just let me game on an Apple.....

6 month safter I bought my iPod I got a Powerbook G4 because I'd always wanted a laptop and I was lusting over my sister's shiny new Powerbook and OSX Tiger. An old friend from high school who now worked at the Apple store laughed and commented on how I had finally come over to the right side when I bought my Powerbook from her. My Windows PC has since become a gaming machine, mostly used to play World of Warcraft, or any other PC Only game that I find. Anything else goes through the laptop(which this is being typed on right now, still running strong after four years of ownership).
I'm now drooling over the iPhone 3G which my wife is telling me I might see for Christmas.
Before the iPod, I ridiculed and laughed at and hated the entire Apple brand. Now I bow to them and their superior stylistic awesomeness. Because they're shiny.

For me, apple always made good products but too expensive, so I didn't buy them. These days they make crappy products that are only sold because they're shiny. So even if I'd win the lottery tomorrow I wouldn't buy any of the new apple products.

I don't have any Apple products, because I'm too lazy to get them. I do like some of the Apple products, because they are the best out there, and because Google isn't on the scene. Ironically, I only like the ones that you posted; the Jesus phone, the floating notebook, and the iPod. I do see their computers in a paradox-like sense. I love them, but I also hate them. I love them because they are more professional looking than Windows, and because they handle quite well. I hate them because they have just as many security holes as Windows (Even though they aren't exploited as much, because of the lack of people that use Macs), and you can't go into the system to fix any problems that may arise. You have to rely on programs to fix your problems (An example of this is Disk Warrior)
Sohmer, I know how you feel.

A month ago I wanted a nano class mp3 player, so I brough a meizu for ~$60 less with a larger screen. Sure its .8mm thicker but its screen is .4" larger and has better battery life. And I didn't have to work out how to make it play with all the OS's I've used it with. (I don't know what you need to do with an iPod to make it work, but I've only ever seen people use them with iTunes which is never going to get near a PC I use)
Sure the iPod was great and is good, but it still comes from the big end of town, I don't want to be told what to do with my data.

but the iPod is pretty cool, since they are all compatible with almost everything. there's even stereos that have nano and shuffle docks, which are very convenient at many hotels.

i've always been an avid built-it-yourself pc windows/linux user, and i took great pride in the fact that while most other graphic designers i knew took out a second mortgage for their crapples, i did what i consider to be all my best work (including some award winning and many professionally published designs) on my homebuilt frankenstein pc, and took no small joy in touting how pathetic apple was and how they were the computer for hipsters who didnt know anything about computers, etc...
And as with your plight...then came the ipod.
I went through so many other mp3 players, and there were a lot of very good ones...but then eventually the stupid little scroll wheel won me over, and it all went downhill from there
its their obsessive attention to detail and phenominally well-constructed OSs (albiet built on top of linux) that sets them apart and makes it juuust a bit more stable, reliable, and downright sexy than the pc, but i still touted my "dont switch to a mac, just get both" tagline as i functioned perfectly on both my home pc and my 17" macbook pro laptop.
And then came Vista.
i really wanted microsoft to pull one out of the hat and win my support back, but if i ever have that monster of an OS within 10 feet of my hard drive youll know something went horribly wrong.
I work at staples as a computer tech and i actually feel a strong sense of guilt now for selling people computers with vista on them when i know the average email checker would be so much better off with a mac... geeks excluded naturally, if done right XP can still be one hell of an OS, my pc does nothing i dont want it to do and everything i do, but holy crap i'm rambling
Ok, i'm done...all that to say I know your pain/joy man, i know it well.

I'm... in love.
But the price makes me cry.
I am saving it under my "if I get really rich" list, subtitled "for writing purposes".
Lovely.

*sighs* I want a better mac. My crappy old PPC mac has long since passed away. And now you can run both OSes on them makes it even more lucrative.

and I've never looked back.
The system is so in depth and professional, and yes difficult to master (Talking about final Cut) but once you've got it up, it opens up a world of possibilities. The quality of the work I've been able to produce, and the ease, has meant I've been getting more cuts sent my way to work on, which makes me feel so much better about not getting much work on the acting side of things.
My life has greatly improved, my bank account has greatly diminished, and I couldn't be happier!

Anyway, I don't see myself ever getting an Apple product unless the PC/"Not a PC" Mac ratio changes drastically in Apple's favor. They make good products, but I just hate their hypocritical modus operandi. As for Windows, I love Vista so much that I only use my XP partition for legacy software and certain "security risk" games. When Windows 7 comes out, I'll probably love that too!
