Why are telcos so stupid?

Optus Internet is down. For the last 6-8 hours. Not only that, but the mobile network isnt working correctly and I have no way of accessing my database to do my job
Why are they so stupid to do a security update during BUSINESS hours and then have their entire system go into meltdown?

the thing is that most telcos today have around 10 employes and they all wear suite and tie....
the rest is subcontracted, you lease fibre and copper from the original network layer in the zone, then you subcontact some techs, hire some space in a callcenter in banglapur, get a cheap local datacenter for control, a couple of cisco dslams or docsis machines (depending on if you give DSL or Cable), you get a bandwidth pipe from a large pipe owner, and you have a ISP, its disgusting, but its how most ISPīs work today,
here in spain, all support centers have been moved to chile and argentina, the techs that come to your home in case of a real outage are usualy subcontracted, so for 3-4 different isps you get the same tech, it would be funny if it wasnt so sad,

Suprisingly, Optus owns the fibre. Thats because it got cut *laughs a little*
And the backup cable wasnt high flow enough to handle a WHOLE STATE's worth of information.
Meanwhile, it sparks the calls for the national grid to be integrated. The two main telcos here have the same cabling but in different locations
It still baffles me and they hate me now I think

Don't feel too bad, they hate all their customers.
