Alright, here's the scoop, I just got a new wireless router about a month ago. Things had been working really well since then. But recently when I was surfing the internet the connection stopped functioning correctly. I'm able to use the wired connection to get an internet connection, but the wireless simply connects and does nothing. Here's a list of what I've tried so far,

1) Tried resetting the router. Worked once. Tried it again and there was no change.
2) Used the "Linksys Advisor" to try and trouble shoot. Nothing.
3) Used the administrative login to try and change the router settings to allow wireless out. However I saw nothing in the settings of the router that indicated that it WASN'T allowing wireless internet access. So I reset to default. No Success.
4) Unplugged, reset and restored all settings to default. Nothing.
5) Checked my wireless firewall settings on my laptop, nothing has changed. Tried reset to default settings. Nothing.
6) Pondered smashing router with hammer. Haven't Tried.
7) Asked you guys for help. Successfulness report pending.

Addendum: Attempting first restart after resetting all settings... Report Pending.

I've spent the last year randomly trying different fixes for my router; different one worked every time. Now I have a handy cable plugged into the side. No problems!

*Sighs* That seems like it might be the ideal solution here...

Update: So we've determined that it's not, in fact, the router. My sister gets perfect connection and signal. So does my neghibor (whom I accosted on the street to get his help) So it appears to be my laptop having the issue. I belive I had a similar problem before I had to take a long hiatus from the site, but I can't remember what the fix was.

So, router good. Computers wireless connection setting/card/driver/hardware=bad. God help me. >_<

Have you tried resetting all your computers wireless connections? deleting the driver & re installing? starting from 0?

Good news! I managed to fix the problem (at least with my computer) Turns my network connection started to degrade after a friend used my network key to try and log on to our network. Somehow this messed with the network settings on my computer, disabling my internet ablility. So I just figured out that if I reset them to the defaults and then re-created the network it would essentially reset everything I did.


Or I fixed it with dumb luck...

2) I'm no wireless Einstein... but how did someone logging in screw up your computer?


I've had 4 other, different people log into my wireless network with no problems (other than me trying to remember the password to said network).

He attempted to use my unique key to bypass my routers security. Which i think caused it to lock me out becuase it thought I was detecting an attack. *Shrugs* More than likely though? Dumb Luck.
