So my computer crashed a while ago, right? I reinstalled everything, including copy of Windows XP SP2 that I got from a friend because mine vanished. But now it's asking me to activate, and I can't. I went to the unattend file for the product key, but it claims that key isn't valid. I tried a dozen keys I found online but nothing works, and I can't seem to find a crack or anything that isn't just viruses and crap. Any ideas?

If you purchased windows with the computer it should've shipped with a sticker on it that has your key.

Yeah, there is a sticker, but unfortunately:
;
So that key doesn't work because this isn't the same copy of windows.

Is this the key you have to enter during install, or did it install properly but is now complaining it's not a legal copy?

Chances are that it's more that the copy you had before was something specifically designed for your computer. Dell, HP, Toshiba, and most other companies have their own slightly different versions of XP so that you can't reuse the key with a proper version, and vice versa. The copy you installed, or your old copy, could be like this, and cause the problem that way.
Ran into it with my Dell laptop. Still was able to use the Dell disk with the key, but my actual XP disk (legal and all) wouldn't work with the laptop's key.

You should be able to reorder just the media for 8-9 bucks.

It installed properly, worked fine for 30 days, and then said I needed to activate using the product key to continue using Windows. I didn't have the product key, since it was my friend's copy, so I went online to learn how to find the product key in the software itself, but when I found it it didn't work...says the key is invalid.

That's....weird. :\ Possible though, since both myself AND my friend have Toshiba laptops...

Reorder what media? The key? You can't possibly think they'd give me a new copy of Windows for 8-9 bucks??
Anyway, I fixed it for now by turning back my computer's clock (I really didn't think that would work >.>) until I have time to piss away on the phone with a Microsoft tech. -_- I'm just avoiding the inevitable because talking with tech support always ends up filling me with an unholy rage.

Media like a CD that will work with your product key, not a new key.

No discussing of acquiring or using illegal software. If you had a legit copy, talk to your PC vendor or Microsoft.
