The Animated Series

“Dude, where’s the LICD animated series? You talk about it once every few months, then nothing. What the hell? Also, your awesomeness knows no bounds”
I may have taken some liberties with that last part, but bulk of that is in fact true. Unfortunately, I would always reply the same, explaining that I’m caught in a gag order and divulging any information would result in my death, or less drastically, a letter to our lawyers.
On Friday afternoon, however, I was informed by the powers that be that they have lifted the cone of silence regarding a few things, and I am now allowed to share you with some of what’s been going on in our never ending efforts to bring Rayne and the gang to a television near you.
Telling this story will involve me going back a ways, so please bear with me.
A little over 2 years ago, we made the decision to make a full strength effort to bring LICD to the small screen. Our first plan of attack was to contact every network on this planet that might be a home for our show, and send them off a good pitch packaged including everything they wanted to know or not about the LICD universe.
Following that, we took some time to go over the responses (it didn’t take too much time, mind you, there were only 6).
Our second meeting we took on the subject was in Banff, Alberta, where we met with a program director from Teletoon, the Canadian version of Cartoon Network.
That meeting went rather well, and resulted in 3 other meetings with everyone who has ever worked at the company. Things were going well, or so we thought, before we hit a snag.
While Teletoon loved the property and wanted to proceed, Blind Ferret Entertainment was too small a company, too unknown a quantity to trust with a full season’s commitment.
Because of our lack of television credit, they recommended (strongly) that we partner with a known production house, to structure the series as co-production.
Teletoon had a few ideas, but we weren’t going to share our baby before we had met everyone and anyone we possibly could.
In the end, we made the educated decision to partner with Cinegroupe, a montreal-based animation house that’s best known for their series Tripping the Rift.
I immediately fell in man-love with their creative director, Mich, and have been learning from him ever since.
The television industry is old fashioned, and it is ridiculously slow, but every now and then, if you’re patient enough, things just might pan out. Following a year of work and back and forths with Teletoon, things started to move forward.
A few short months ago, a deal was signed between Teletoon, Cinegroupe and Blind Ferret Entertainment to develop LICD for Teletoon’s Detour programming block.
So in short, yes, the animated series is happening, and it’s happening now.
I will do my best to keep you up to date over the coming months, as I’m allowed, but for now, know that Rayne will be popping up on your television set quicker then you think.

Like Brian said, what does this mean for all of us stateside? Are you going to do an online membership deal (PvP & CtrlAltDel) or are we just going to have to wait out till the dvds?
Either way, I'm seriously excited. Congrats to the whole Blind Ferret crew for finally pulling this off!

This just goes to prove that Red Bull addicted workaholics with questionable taste in overly colourful alcoholic beverages, cutting wit, and no hair truly are the ones who will inherit the earth. The meek can crawl back under whatever rock they've hiding beneath!
Do you still say break a leg when it's a cartoon?

Where are the new shorts? You promised in January...now its March...
I'm hanging here stateside...and I know that Tripping The Rift was on our Sci-fi network down here for about a year or more...any chance of that happening with LICD? Or maybe get it a spot on Adult Swim on Cartoon Network? That seems right up your alley. Just saying.
That's all I have to say about that.
