If anyone of you played or heard of the video game "American McGee's Alice" from back in 2000, you'll remember that there was talk of a movie ever since it's release date. It was a very cool game, very cool update to the famous story, "Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll. Well it looks like it's finally here. Or soon will be. I don't know about Gellar as Alice, I would probably have picked about half a dozen lesser named and younger actresses, but she seems to have made a name for herself in the horror business and if the studio thinks her name will actually sell more tickets then whatever.

that part made me quit actually. there would be some jump that took me days to do because it was right before a save point. I would do it only to find another one like it just a little further down. I never finished the game unfortunately.

Best part of the game was this though.

I remember seeing some pretty good (but not great) reviews of the game. Had I seen that trailer, I probably would've gotten the game. Wondering now if it might be worth looking for in somebody's bargain bin...

Making that into a movie seems like it might appeal to a pretty specialized audience.

I don't know the story, but the part that caught my eye in the trailer was, "Alice grew up...so did Wonderland." As for SMG being too old, I can see them spinning it as her being the "grown up" Alice trying to return to her childhood playland, and finding it much darker and more dangerous. As Buffy, I thought she did a very good job of being mostly sweet and cuddly, but really being in touch with her inner bad-ass, and enjoying it. (Is Buffy on the bad-ass scale in that Anything and Everything thread?)

Although I'd much rather see Alyson Hannigan playing the part...

I think both those women are to old. You really need a 20 yr old. Someone like Ellen Page maybe. She's cute, has long dark hair. And if you've seen Hard Candy, definately knows how to be twisted and tough. Would just need the green eye contacts.

Although, I really don't see why they shouldn't just animate the whole thing.

What I don't like is the way American McGee is attributed with having made the story of Alice in Wonderland a lot 'darker', when actually, the original novel was pretty dark and creepy anyway.

Yeah the original book is. But then so are alot of children movies out there. Anything from the Grim Fairy Tales were actually very gory, and frightening.

Being P.C. and dumbing thing down is sad thing that people do when telling stories.

"What's broken Alice?"

-"I am..."

That part was awesome, seeing that now makes me wish I'd have bought the game, I remember reading about that and thinking "Meh, probably another Tomb Raider clone" <---(Don't ask)

Certainly the original was dark, but his version was darker. The original didn't have a hairless burnt cat, a heroine with a bloody butchers knife. Or buzz saw's trying to cut up little girls.

I've been waiting for the movie version of this for a while. While I have another year to go, I'm glad they set a date, finally.
