Film Review:
In the Review Thread

This is definately a movie worth watching without knowing to much about it. Let it surprise you and it probably will.

I liked how they kept the house simple. Solid colors, not much furniture, small house. Closed or covered windows so you don't get caught up in the outside. And even when outside the camera always pointed back towards the house. Kept you focused on the characters.

The scene that really got me was the castration scene. The way they set it up, the way the played it out, the conversations between the two and the result. It just had you going "Holy shit.. what next.."

The ending still has me wondering if she had met the other guy yet and what happened to him. I sort of feel that this was the first, that Jeff would have heard about this pedofile being killed. And I totally feel like she's the wolf and he's red riding hood.

Fact: Canadian girls are way better in bed. They have to be to keep warm in the evening ;)

Yeah you make some good points on this in terms of the technical aspects. The decor was very stark without being unrealistically so, and did well to keep the attention on the actors.

The castration scene totally had me cupping my package protectively. I didn't even realize I was doing it until halfway through the scene! But yeah, the acting in that scene in particular was fucking terrific. Seriously, why haven't I seen that guy in anything since?

And yeah, I got the "Red Riding Hood fights back" vibe.

The thing that really fucking bothered me about it though: I couldn't decide who to root for through the whole thing. I mean, at first we didn't know if he was really as fucked up as she was saying. You kinda wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt -- after all, HE's the one just got roofied and tied up.

Then as more and more evidence piles up, you start to swing over to the girl's side -- but she's still obviously psychotic... Plus the castration scene transcends everything but the basic male bond. We can't help but react or respond to that dude's terror, no matter what he's done with his parts...

The director and the writer did a great job of making you swing back and forth.

and Patrick Wilson has been in a bunch of stuff. Lakeview Terrace, Running with Scissors, and now the Watchmen.

He's in Watchmen? Cooooool. I just Googled. You're right, he's been in a bunch of stuff. And he's Nite Owl in Watchmen -- that's awesome.

It's always nice to see someone do a good job and move on to further success.
