The book eragon and the sequel eldest are both my favorite books.
I dont do a lot of reading because I cant find many books to hold my very short attention span, but thease ones did nicely.

If ur into Fantasy or dragons I personally recomend it.

Its too long and complex for a full summary but ill give a small one a shot.

A teenage boy finds a rock in the mountains and keeps it so he can pawn it later for some food for his family to help them get thru the cold winter. The egg hatches and they both go on some awesome adventures. But its not all fun and games... at all. They are trying to overthrow the corrupt king galbitorax.

And I dont want to say anymore, if you thought it was interesting at all i suggest picking it up.

BTW there making a 3 big movies for the 3 books(the last one isnt out yet). look it up on google if you want

Peace out all

some other links to the game and movie, and sight

Eragon was a great read for a young adult novel. I found it to be engaging and the world that was created within the pages of the book had its own unique aspects that kept my attention rather than just leading me to believe that yet another fantasy novel was a clone of The Lord of the Rings like many other fantasy novels are quickly accused of being. Eldest was very long and drawn out with very little in terms of plot advancement, but the plot development was fantastic, despite the fact that it made the book really, really drag along. I think that the author could have done with just a wee bit less plot development and a wee bit more plot advancement. I wasn't particularly shocked by anything in the book, as I found certain elements of it to be predictable, but it still had unique elements that I've not read in another fantasy novel to this point. I give Eragon an enthusiastic thumbs-up and I give Eldest a half-hearted thumbs up.

I finished Eragon not that long ago and REALLY enjoyed the book, but haven't been able to afford to get Eldest yet, though I am looking forward to it. Dragons with humans against a conflict is defninitely my 'cup of brain-candy' as someone posted on the 'what are you reading right now' thread. That and most fantasy/sci-fi or fantasy sci-fi. Mmmmm......books biggrin.gif

Yeah eldest was good but there definatly could have been more to it. But maby its just me, but i liked all the "boring" stuff in it if it were up to me ide have him continue the storie on after eragon beats galbatorix, if he beats him tho. He could allways loose and live to train the next group of riders. That would be great. biggrin.gif

I enjoyed reading Eragon but i cannot read eldest. Not sure why, but he introduces way too quickly and then will kill them off two to three chapters later. that kind of bugs me, but the essential storyline is good

Eragon was mediocre. Maybe I judge books a little too critically after reading classics, but Paolini's writing contains several flaws such as awkward phrasing and redundancies. It seems as if he's trying too hard at times. For a 15-year-old, however, Eragon is an oustanding achivement. I was hoping that as Paolini matured, so would his writing, but admittedly I was disappointed with Eldest. The beginning and conclusion of the novel contained most of the action. The bulky middle section (i.e. Eragon's training in Ellesmera) seemed to drag on indefinitely, making Eldest somewhat of a chore to read. Still, I hope Paolini redeems himself with the final book of the trilogy.

P.S. And there's my yearly post... wink.gif

I enjoyed Eragon, and Eldest was long, but realistic (Honestly, I've been there as a horny teenager, wanting but not getting. It sucks, and really rang with me.) but the rest was disappointing. Elves are wimpy bitches, and we needed more Dwarves. DWARVES! RAAAWR!

Still, I'll shell out cash for the third, but he's damn well gotta get something pwnage in it.

Also, Paolini is an UBER nerd. twocents.gif

maby garrow is eragons uncle.

maby eragon goes back to the elvs to complete his training and just afterwards like if in another horrable cliche his teacher dies dies.

cant remember anyother predictions atm post some of your own if you want.

and btw jeru is do you really only post only 1ce a year? Dout it

Eragon is a great book and I enjoyed Eldest as well. However he seemed to copy some story elements right from other books/movies. I wouldn't be suprised if he goes back to visit his teacher and finds him dead and the elves village destroyed. Its a fun read but rather predictable at times.

A lot about this book was cliché/predictable. Like Jeru said, a lot of the phrasing was awkward. Also, at times it seemed that the author just skipped large amounts of time for no reason. Aside from that, many elements of the book seemed to be taken from other fantasy books. There's nothing wrong with authors getting ideas from other books, but there just seemed to be too many borrowed ideas.

ive heard that eragon takes elements of the story from starwars and some others but if some 1 can make a good book and take some basic ideas from other books then let him if he can make it a better tail

Eragon was indeed a wonderful book. But Eldest was all too predictable and just drug on and on and on until you felt you were going to die from lack of substantial information. This was his first set of novels, so I do hope to see better things from him in the future. And I hope the last book in the trilogy isn't quite so predictable.

Yes i hope that there is 3 movies also. if they shove all 3 books into 1 movie ill be mad lol, you cant fit that much time in one movie. Eldest was good for me lol i dont mind the tedious random junk that he told about, true it might not have been relivent but still something to do to waist time lol......... if you cant tell i have too much free time =p

Oh, Eragon... urgh.

I couldn't stop laughing the entire time I was reading them because the kid ripped so many sci-fi and fantasy elements off. XD

does anyone know the exact date of when the third novel in the series is coming out?

Also, yes Paolini does repeat/reuse many of fantasy's most commonplace ideas etc. but so far I've found him to be a pretty good recycler (much better than many authors whose books Ive read lately) so I'm eagerly anticipating his the last novel in the series
