Quite a good match up but I've got to go with Lecter. Bates was psychotic sure but Lecter was a hell of a lot more twisted.

What Norman Bates had in sheer psychotic eagerness, Hannibal Lecter overmatches in cunning, ferocity and wit. After all, Lecter would probably convince Bates that Mama wanted him to kill himself. End 'o match.

Lector, because as a villain he's more intriging than Bates.

We know what drives Bates - his twisted love for his mother - but who knows what makes Lector tick? I love to watch him simply to try and find out.

I concur with illusionist. Lector is more intrigueing and just generally more evil than bates in a sense. Lector has my vote again.

"Im haveing an old friend for supper..."

Hannibal Lecter is my vote. You cant get much better than a villian who has depth. Scary, with an underlying sence of mystry with a silver lineing of psyco. No one could ever match that, because it makes you want to know more about him. Makes you want to understand Lecter, even though its just a film.

Easy: his love for human flesh, and he's intrigued with the human mind. Just a curious kid that breaks stuff to know how it works. I don't really think Lecter has a mind (in terms of emotions) so he just wants to manipulate stuff out of curiosity. AND he already has great understanding of how it works (which made him a big help in Silence of the Lambs).
You don't want this creepy guy on your bad side.

Actually, if anyone has ever read the original "Hannibal", it's not quite as simple as even that and it's not even hinted at in any of the films.

Let's just say, there's a lot more to his interest in Clarisse Starling than either sex or food.... tongue.gif

What's great about Lecter is that you forget that he's crazy. You actually end up rooting for him at some point. Then you realize after a horribly gruesome scene, "oh, right, eats people."

there is no competition when it comes to anthony hopkins as hannibal lecter. silence of the lambs is, hands down, the best movie of all time.

So undoubtedly true. Lector all the way.

And thanks for pointing out the books Illu, those are a few I may just have to pick up ASAP.
